General Medicine Director

Western Health seeks a dynamic and experienced General Physician to be the Director of General Medicine.

This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a multidisciplinary team, oversee clinical governance, workforce development, and service improvement.

The successful candidate will provide effective leadership, strategic direction, operational, and financial performance for the General Medicine Unit.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the Clinical Services Director to ensure delivery of high-quality, safe, and timely care.
  • Oversee clinical governance, workforce development, and service improvement in alignment with divisional goals.
  • Manage access and flow, optimise inpatient capacity, and facilitate timely admissions, discharges, and follow-up.
  • Foster a strong, engaged multidisciplinary team culture through staff management, including recruitment, supervision, performance development, and wellbeing support.
  • Lead continuous quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with accreditation and safety standards.
  • Support innovation in models of care and oversee the expansion of General Medicine to new sites.
Requirements:
  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Medical Specialist.
  • Hold Fellowship with RACP and approved adult general medicine scope of practice.
  • Proven clinical skills and experience in senior management positions.
  • Experience in supporting and supervising senior and junior medical staff.
About the Role:

This is a permanent full-time position comprising 0.6 non-clinical and 0.4 clinical EFT.
