Special Education Teacher Position

This is a dedicated and passionate teaching role that requires working with students who have disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional support to students with disabilities
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Monitor and evaluate student outcomes for those with disabilities
  • Assist in developing IEPs and ensuring compliance with relevant state and federal policies
  • Implement behavioral interventions as needed

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in special education from an accredited institution
  • Strong knowledge of learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment
  • Student teaching experience in special education or two years of teaching experience at the elementary or secondary level
  • Certification in a content area is desirable
  • Meet Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) curriculum for the grade/content range of the position, MCPS special education program
  • Ability to provide instructional support, work effectively with students with disabilities, teachers, and parents/guardians of students with disabilities
  • Excellent communication skills
