Conservation Officer Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Conservation Officer to join our team in Kununurra. As a key member of our community, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and providing exceptional service to the public.

The East Kimberley is a unique and sparsely populated region in Western Australia, known for its stunning natural beauty, rich culture, and abundant opportunities. The area is diverse, with a mix of cultures, lifestyles, and environments.

As a Conservation Officer, your primary duties will include:

  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, including the Dog Act 1976, Cat Act 2011, Control of Off-Road Vehicles Act 1978, Litter Act 1979, Caravan and Camping Grounds Act 1995, Bush Fire Act 1954, and the Local Government Act.
  • Conducting regular inspections to ensure compliance with the Bush Fires Act 1954.
  • Implementing fire control measures, including controlled burns and fire extinguishment.
  • Responding to abandoned vehicles in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Managing the animal management facility, including cleaning, maintaining registers, releasing, rehoming, or euthanising animals when necessary, and coordinating fee collection.
  • Removing and relocating snakes within municipal boundaries.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Strong regulatory compliance skills.
  • Current Provide First Aid certification.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Basic Emergency Life Support qualifications.
  • A current unrestricted WA "C" Class Driver's Licence.
  • Reptile handling and capture experience and certification.
  • Firearms handling and safety certification and experience.

You will also require strong organisation and time management skills, as well as excellent communication, negotiation, and mediation skills.
