About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Guidance Counsellor/Psychologist to join our team at Townsville Catholic Education. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional to make a real difference in the lives of students and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance and support to schools in the Mount Isa Region, focusing on student social, emotional, and educational development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and external agencies to develop and implement effective programs and services for students with diverse needs.
  • Assess presenting issues and conduct activities such as intakes, student observation, and psychoeducational assessment to determine student learning difficulties and provide recommendations for adjustments and interventions.
  • Manage the provision of counselling and consulting services for students with personal, social, emotional, and educational needs, with a focus on prevention, intervention, and student learning.
  • Ensure policy and procedures for student protection, behaviour support, and record-keeping are implemented, including developing individual student plans with teachers and families.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A proven capacity to develop and implement counselling programs and strategies to support students with personal, social, and emotional needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively respond to sensitive and complex student issues within an ethical framework.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and external agencies to provide comprehensive support services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop productive relationships within and beyond the school community.
Mandatory Criteria
  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card (paid Blue Card before commencement).
  • Current full registration or provisional registration as a teacher in Queensland, or full registration as a psychologist through AHPRA Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville.
  • Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the ethos of the Catholic School.
