Senior Observability Lead

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Observability Lead to join our Platform Engineering team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of observability solutions that enable engineering teams across the organization to proactively identify issues, troubleshoot efficiently, and ensure a seamless experience for our users.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in observability principles, tools, and best practices, as well as experience building and managing distributed systems and cloud-native applications. They will be able to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and have experience with agile development methodologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of Observability engineers within the Platform Engineering domain.
  • Define and execute the strategy and roadmap for Observability across the organization, covering logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
  • Ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of Observability platforms and tools.
  • Drive the adoption of Observability best practices and educate development teams on their effective use.
  • Collaborate with other engineering managers and product teams to integrate Observability into the software development lifecycle.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in Observability.
  • Manage vendor relationships and evaluate new tools and solutions.
  • Contribute to the overall architecture and design of the platform infrastructure.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in software engineering management, leading teams focused on observability, SRE, or platform engineering.
  • Strong technical background in observability principles, tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Jaeger, OpenTelemetry), and best practices.
  • Experience building and managing distributed systems and cloud-native applications (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies.
