Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as an Aboriginal Population Health Trainee. The successful applicant will participate in a three-year traineeship as part of the NSW Aboriginal Population Health Training Initiative. This will involve work-based placements within the health service and part-time study towards a Master of Public Health degree at a NSW-based university.

Key Responsibilities
  • The trainee will complete a series of work-based placements in various rotations, including Child Youth and Family Health team, Public Health, and Planetary Health.
  • They will develop skills in addressing child and youth health service delivery and evaluation, Aboriginal community engagement, vaccine promotion, outbreak investigations, and appropriate messaging for climate change.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • They should have sound knowledge of social, cultural, political, and health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families, and communities.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of the health of Aboriginal Health and Torres Strait Islander children and young people is essential.
  • The candidate should have successfully completed a recognised undergraduate degree or be able to meet the admission requirements for the postgraduate degree of Master of Public Health at a university in NSW.
