
Rural Generalist Occupational Therapist Opportunity

The Rural Generalist Program is a unique opportunity for new graduate Occupational Therapists to gain diverse clinical experience in rural communities. Participants will have the chance to rotate across different teams and clinical areas, gaining exceptional experience and a strong start to their career.
">- This two-year program provides regular clinical supervision and mentoring opportunities, as well as dedicated time for professional development, including monthly journal clubs and multidisciplinary education sessions.
- Participants will be supported to complete further study in rural generalist practice through the James Cook University Rural generalist level 1 course.
Rural Generalists play a vital role in providing healthcare to rural communities. They are skilled therapists who can work confidently and effectively in a variety of settings, from acute hospital care to community and outreach services.
">As an Occupational Therapist with this program, you will have the opportunity to build upon your knowledge and experiences, becoming a true generalist with sought-after clinical skills.
">With support from local Occupational Therapy supervisors and regular catch-ups with the Program Coordinator, you will be able to navigate any challenges that come your way.
">Whether you're working in a large regional hospital or a rural Multi-Purpose Service, it's all about the team you work with. This program helps you build local networks and learn from some highly-skilled Allied Health teams.
">Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality patient care and contribute to the development of programs and services.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to achieve the best outcomes for patients.
- Participate in ongoing team projects and service developments.
- Demonstrated commitment to rural health and understanding of the issues related to rural clinical practice in a community setting.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
- Commitment to professional development, evidence-based practice, and continuous improvement, including completion of a quality improvement project.
