About the Position

Occupational Therapists are essential members of healthcare teams, working closely with patients to identify and address physical, emotional, and cognitive barriers that affect their daily lives. This role offers a unique opportunity for new graduates to gain diverse clinical experience while living and working in rural communities.

The Rural Generalist Program is an exciting initiative that provides occupational therapists with exceptional opportunities for professional growth and development. Through regular clinical supervision and mentoring, participants will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become confident and capable practitioners.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to rotate across different teams and clinical areas, building upon your knowledge and experiences, becoming a true generalist with sought-after clinical skills.

  • Diverse Clinical Experience: Gain experience across clinical settings, from acute hospital care to community and outreach services.
  • Regular Supervision and Mentoring: Receive regular clinical supervision and mentoring opportunities to support your growth and development.
  • Professional Development: Benefit from dedicated time for professional development, including monthly journal clubs and multidisciplinary education sessions.
  • Quality Improvement Project: Implement a Quality Improvement Project, with support from senior staff to complete this.
  • Rural Generalist Practice: Supported to complete further study in rural generalist practice through the James Cook University Rural generalist level 1 course.
