Job Overview

As a key member of the Data Administration team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and maturing the direction of our hybrid SQL Server fleet across cloud and on-premise sites.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the implementation of our evolving enterprise information strategy, coordinate project and business-as-usual work, and investigate opportunities to enhance database and analytical systems delivery.

The successful candidate will bring a strong technical foundation, excellent communication skills, and a proactive mindset to engage with stakeholders and systems across the department and within the Information Services Branch.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Enhance and sustain our hybrid database platforms to meet operational needs and strategic goals.
  • Lead capability uplift initiatives within the team, including mentoring, knowledge sharing, and identifying opportunities for professional development and technical training.
  • Champion data stewardship and compliance practices to ensure database operations align with departmental policies, privacy obligations, and data governance frameworks.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert to business areas on matters of database design and performance.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Mandatory:
  • Configuration and administration of Microsoft SQL Server components, including Availability Groups, Reporting, Integration, and Analysis Services.
  • Monitoring health and performance of SQL Server instances to identify and resolve critical events.
  • Troubleshooting data platform related issues and outages.
  • Desirable:
  • Tertiary qualifications in ICT or a related field and/or equivalent experience as a database administrator (3+ years).
  • Scripting expertise in systems administration and exposure to analytical systems focused scripting tools and methodologies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft development IDEs and source control systems.
  • Experience in using Microsoft SCOM in an enterprise level monitoring capacity.
  • Experience in administration of Azure based Data Platform services.
