Independent Audit Committee Member Role

The role of an independent audit committee member is crucial in ensuring the effective governance framework of an organisation.

As a member of the audit and risk committee, you will play a vital role in providing assurance and assistance to the council on key aspects of its operations.

This includes attending and actively participating in all committee meetings, working collaboratively with other members to achieve the objectives of the committee, and possessing a strong background in accountancy or financial management.

Additionally, the ideal candidate should have senior/executive level legal, governance, risk management, information technology, and performance management experience.

The selected individual will be required to meet at Wurriki Nyal for scheduled committee meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend and actively participate in all committee meetings;
  • Work collaboratively with other members in achieving the objectives of the committee;
  • Have a strong background in accountancy or financial management, and/or audit, with an understanding of accounting and auditing standards in a public sector environment;
  • Have senior/executive level legal, governance, risk management, information technology, and performance management experience;
  • Meet at Wurriki Nyal for scheduled committee meetings.

Selection Criteria:

  • A broad range of personal attributes, professional skills, and experience relevant to the operations of the organisation;
  • Relevant professional qualifications in business administration, risk management, assurance, financial management, or law;
  • Relevant professional level knowledge and experience in business administration, risk management, assurance, financial management, or law;
  • Understanding of and/or experience in the public sector;
  • Understanding of the role of corporate governance in organisations;
  • Relevant experience on similar committees in local government, broader public, or private sectors.

What We Offer:

  • A fee of $2165 plus GST per meeting;
  • A travel allowance at ATO rate;
  • An induction prior to the first ARC meeting.
