Tailings Engineer Job Description

Knight Piésold offers engineering and environmental services in Mining, Environment, Hydropower, Water Resources, and Roads & Construction Services.

With over 100 years of experience, we work on diverse projects both geographically and technically.

The Role

This role involves working on tailings storage facilities and earth structures. We are looking for individuals who can interpret laboratory test results, develop defensible soil strength parameters, and conduct design analyses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpreting laboratory test results and preparing summary reports.
  • Developing defensible soil strength parameters using laboratory and field results.
  • Conducting design analyses to support tailings storage facilities and earth structures.
  • Project planning, preparing technical deliverables, and coordinating client-contractor requests.
  • Design assessments, including tailings beach modelling, and stability and seepage analyses.
  • Providing support to junior staff and working with project teams.
  • Ensuring effective communication between clients and stakeholders.
  • Travelling to remote mine sites for site inspections, supervising investigations, and overseeing construction designs.
  • Identifying safety hazards and reporting incidents.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering.
  • 3-5 years' experience in tailings/mine waste related projects, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Well-established analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and geotechnical design software such as GeoStudio, RocScience, and GoldSim.
