The ACT Government's Parliamentary Counsel's Office is seeking highly skilled and experienced legal professionals for the position of Legislative Drafter Specialist. As a Legislative Drafter Specialist, you will be responsible for providing expert legislative drafting services, reviewing and editing draft legislation, and collaborating with other stakeholders to achieve effective outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement high-quality legislative drafting standards and guidelines
  • Provide expert advice on legislative drafting matters to internal and external stakeholders
  • Review and edit draft legislation to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency
  • Collaborate with other teams to develop policies and procedures that support the legislative drafting process
  • Contribute to the development of training programs and resources to enhance the legislative drafting skills of colleagues

Requirements:

  • Admission to practice as a legal practitioner in the ACT Supreme Court or another Australian jurisdiction
  • Significant experience in legislative drafting, preferably in a government agency or parliamentary office
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels
