Job Overview

The Surgical & Endoscopy Access Unit plays a pivotal role in facilitating the patient journey from surgical outpatient clinics to elective surgical and endoscopy waiting lists. As an Elective Surgery Access Nurse, you will be instrumental in preparing patients for procedures, collaborating closely with all surgical specialties and the Department of Anaesthetic & Perioperative Medicine.

  • Deliver safe, quality, clinically appropriate nursing care, working in partnership with patients/clients, their families, and other health professionals to strengthen health outcomes.
  • Support designated specialty units and coordinate patient elective surgery & endoscopy care pathways to ensure seamless patient flow.
  • Ensure patients arrive on procedure days with relevant documentation completed and a plan of care in place, guaranteeing timely and efficient care delivery.
  • Work daily with specialty units, liaising closely with relevant Perioperative Units to manage elective surgery & endoscopy waiting lists, driving efficiency and productivity.
Requirements
  • Possess high-level knowledge and skills combined with significant experience in acute surgical nursing, including pre-admission, admission, discharge, and waiting list management principles.
  • Demonstrate advanced communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, diverse stakeholders, patients, and their families.
  • Exhibit patient focus, delivering high levels of patient service, responding to patient needs, and providing high-quality outputs.
