Lead Interpreter Role

The role of the Lead Interpreter plays a pivotal part in ensuring effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and staff, as well as external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional interpretation services to facilitate inclusive practices and enhance accessibility.
  • Collaborate with staff and stakeholders to ensure seamless communication.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Deaf communities and cultural organisations to promote accessible practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in Auslan interpreting and translation, and make recommendations for improvements.

Requirements:

  • Expertise in Auslan interpreting and translation, and deep understanding of Deaf culture.
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of the experiences and challenges encountered by people with disability and/or deaf backgrounds.
  • Must hold a Certified Interpreter or higher qualifications, maintain NAATI Certification, and commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Must hold a Working with Children Check (WWWC).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret in live performance settings.
