We are seeking a computational scientist to join our team working closely with Australia's Climate Simulator (ACCESS-NRI) to couple ice-sheet and sea-level system models with ocean models.
The project offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of Earth system modelling, climate science, and high-performance computing to address major challenges facing society.
Candidates with a strong background in computational modelling and programming, with or without experience in Earth system modelling, are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dynamically couple ice-sheet and ocean models in collaboration with project partners
- Refine and optimize coupled model for improved performance and numerical reliability
- Collaborate on implementation of new basal melt parameterisations, iceberg calving mechanisms, and other key processes
- Contribute to development and maintenance of related tools and APIs
Requirements:
- PhD in glaciology, oceanography, computational modelling, climate sciences, software engineering, or related discipline
- Demonstrated experience with numerical modelling required
- Experience with ice sheet dynamics, ocean processes, and coupled climate system components desirable
- Strong technical proficiency in software development and optimization for high-performance computing environments
- Proficiency in Python, C++, and Fortran programming as well as experience with APIs for model pre- and post-processing
- Excellent communication skills, including ability to write technical documentation and publish research outcomes
Benefits:
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to the advancement of ice sheet-ocean coupled modelling and sea-level rise projections within a dynamic and collaborative research environment.
How to Apply:
Please submit your application, including resume, cover letter, and responses to the requirements listed above.
