Senior Computational Modeller
We are seeking a highly skilled computational modeller to join our team working on the development and application of advanced ice sheet ocean coupling models. The successful candidate will have a strong background in numerical modelling, with experience in developing and optimising complex model systems for high-performance computing environments.
The role involves:
- Developing and refining the coupled ACCESS-OM3-ISSM model for improved performance and reliability.
- Collaborating with project partners to implement new basal melt parameterisations, iceberg calving mechanisms, and other key components.
- Contribution to the development and maintenance of the ACCESS-ISSM Recipes, Python API, and Community Data Pool.
- Participation in HPC-optimised ISSM configurations and engagement with the ACCESS-NRI Ice Sheet Modelling Team.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A PhD in glaciology, oceanography, computational modelling, climate sciences, software engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience with numerical modelling, including ice sheet dynamics and ocean processes.
- Strong technical proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, and Fortran, as well as APIs for model pre- and post-processing.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write technical documentation and publish research outcomes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and talented individual to contribute significantly to the advancement of ice sheet-ocean coupled modelling and sea-level rise projections. If you are passionate about computational modelling and want to make a difference in addressing major challenges facing society, we encourage you to apply.
Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A or Level B, offering a competitive salary and benefits package.
To apply, please provide your resume, cover letter outlining your suitability and motivation for the role, and responses to the success profile criteria. For further information, please contact Chen Zhao, Senior Research Fellow in Ice Sheet Modelling.
