Building Inspector Job Description

We are seeking a Building Inspector to join our team. As a Building Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with building legislation, codes, and standards.

The role involves conducting building inspections in response to complaints and departmental requests, issuing and following up on inspection notices and orders, providing on-site advice and direction to builders, subcontractors, and property owners, assisting in assessing various permit applications, participating in after-hours callouts, and monitoring project performance, managing risks, and resolving issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with building legislation, codes, and standards under direction.
  • Conduct thorough building inspections in response to complaints and departmental requests.
  • Issue and follow up on inspection notices and orders to ensure compliance.
  • Provide expert advice and direction to builders, subcontractors, and property owners on-site.
  • Assist in the assessment of various permit applications, including building, hoarding, and POPE permits.
  • Participate in after-hours callouts on a rostered basis to respond to urgent matters.
  • Monitor project performance, identify potential risks, and resolve issues effectively.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant building legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply building codes, policies, and precedents.
  • Desirable qualifications include Registration as a Building Practitioner with the Building & Plumbing Commission, in the category of Building Inspector Unlimited.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks, including National Criminal History Check and Working with Children Check.
