We are seeking a highly skilled Data Science Technical Leader to join our growth supergroup at Canva, driving scalable data science and AI-driven innovation.

Overview

At Canva, we're on a mission to empower everyone in the world to design anything and publish anywhere. Our growth supergroup is tasked with driving user and revenue growth through data-driven strategies, focusing on scaling subscription products across businesses of all sizes.

This role will lead initiatives that optimize data efficiency, build out new experimentation and personalization capabilities, and introduce AI to elevate our growth strategy.

About the Role

We estimate the salary for this position to be around $150,000 - $200,000 per annum, depending on experience.

This Data Science Technical Leader will play a critical role in shaping our technical roadmap for data science and AI-driven growth, working closely with leadership across data, product, and machine learning teams to build systems that ensure efficiency, scalability, and adoption of new technologies.

The ideal candidate will have advanced SQL competency, strong stakeholder management skills, and experience with R or Python, as well as familiarity with subscription-based business models and collaborative product data sets.

In this role, you'll lead technical dives, such as scaling Snowflake infrastructure and exploring AI-driven personalization frameworks, as well as high-impact strategic efforts like automating revenue and experiment data analysis with OpenAI integrations.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Lead and mentor data analytics engineers, helping to elevate technical skills across the team while driving platform-level innovations.
  • New Capability Development: Design and test new capabilities, exploring value and scalability across Canva.
  • AI Integration: Collaborate with Machine Learning Engineers to develop sustainable and scalable personalization frameworks, integrating AI-driven capabilities like OpenAI.
  • Proactive Problem-Solving: Act as a technical 'SWAT' team, jumping into complex data problems requiring immediate solutions.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Work closely with data leadership and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for innovation and implement technical solutions aligning with business goals.
