We are seeking an experienced Senior Governance and Assurance Executive Director to join our rapidly growing team at Synergy Group. Based in Canberra, this is a great opportunity to work on diverse projects and deliver high-quality services to our clients.

About the Role

This senior leadership position involves managing programs of work, leading cross-functional teams, and providing expert guidance to stakeholders. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality internal audits, risk assessments, and governance advice that drives organisational performance and assurance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of internal audit programs, ensuring timely completion and high-quality outcomes.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, including C-level executives, board members, and other key stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement governance frameworks, policies, and procedures that align with organisational objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate risks, improve controls, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Provide expert advice on auditing standards, procedures, rules, and regulations to ensure compliance and best practices.
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in internal audit, risk management, or a related field, preferably in government.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality internal audits, risk assessments, and governance advice.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience in managing cross-functional teams and stakeholder relationships.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or relevant qualifications, such as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to network and lead at all levels.
  • Ability to hold or obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance.
