Senior Rail Safety Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Rail Safety Specialist to join our team. This role involves working within the Infrastructure Delivery Office to contribute to a safe, efficient, and effective network by improving capacity, reliability, and safety.
The successful candidate will lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Rail and WHS safety assurance and reporting processes for the Rail Infrastructure Delivery Office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, programs, and initiatives to support safety processes, ensuring compliance with legislation and standards.
- Implement the Safety Assurance activity program and monitor for trends and organizational learning opportunities.
- Oversee safety assurance activities conducted by contracted entities and project personnel.
- Prepare and present regular reports on safety assurance and management activities to the leadership team.
- Lead safety management activities, including risk assessments, safety observations, and risk mitigation planning.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Tertiary qualification in Health and Safety, Business, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience working on large rail or major infrastructure projects.
- ICAM lead investigator (preferred).
- Internal Auditor qualifications (preferred).
- Knowledge of relevant WHS acts, regulations, codes of practice, guidelines, and AS/ISO standards and systems.
- Experience working with regulatory bodies such as ONRSR and OFSC.
- Excellent analytical skills to identify trends and risks, and develop proactive strategies for issues management and mitigation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for planning, implementing, and managing safety activities, and providing strategic advice to senior management.
