Music Director Job Description

The Music Director is responsible for leading the Junior School music program at a prestigious independent girls' school in Australia. This full-time leadership position involves teaching classroom music from P-6, developing and nurturing musical learning among students, and participating in the whole-school ensemble program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching music classes to students from Prep to Year 6
  • Developing and implementing music curriculum aligned with the Kodály music method
  • Collaborating with the Director of Music to plan and execute music events throughout the year
  • Maintaining a stimulating and engaging classroom environment that fosters musical growth and creativity among students

Requirements:

  • Relevant teaching experience in music education, preferably in a similar role or as a junior school music teacher
  • Proficiency in the Kodály music method and choral direction
  • Strong relationship-building and team management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and students across the school
