Head of Engineering - SRE Observability & Tooling

About the Role

The Head of SRE Observability & Tooling will be responsible for building and delivering robust tooling solutions as well as the Observability platform. This includes building a dedicated team of experienced professionals who will drive reliability at Xero through automation and Observability solutions.

About the Team

The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team at Xero drives and influences the company to provide a reliable experience for customers. The team is based globally across New Zealand, Australia, and the USA, combining software and systems engineering to enable engineers to build stable products that operate as intended.

Key Responsibilities
  • BUILDING A WORLD-CLASS TOOLING ECOSYSTEM: Building a world-class tooling ecosystem owned by world-class SRE professionals.
  • LEADING A HIGH-PERFORMING TEAM: Leading a dedicated team of highly experienced industry professionals who will drive enduring reliability at Xero.
  • DRIVING OBSERVABILITY STRATEGY: Driving Xero's Observability strategy and contributing to the ongoing transformation of the Xero SRE culture.

Requirements: To succeed in this role you will need:

  • A STRONG TECHNICAL BACKGROUND: An extremely technical leader with strong engineering and hands-on SRE background.
  • DEEP EXPERIENCE IN OBSERVABILITY: Deep and proven experience in building world-class Observability solutions in a fast-growing company.
  • LEADERSHIP SKILLS: Proven track record in leadership roles, with the ability to inspire and empower cross-functional teams to achieve operational excellence.

What We Offer: At Xero we offer a competitive salary of $270,000 per annum, depending on experience.
