The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing and developing complex software systems that meet the needs of our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop scalable and efficient backend systems using modern technologies and frameworks
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements
  • Develop and maintain high-quality code that meets our standards for reliability, security, and performance
  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to improve the quality of our codebase
  • Contribute to the development of our technology roadmap and strategic initiatives
Requirements
  • Depth of knowledge in a backend coding language and associated libraries/frameworks
  • Depth of knowledge in architecture, particularly SaaS
  • Ability to own delivery of complex features, break down requirements, and provide reasonable estimates
  • Ability to articulate effort vs impact tradeoffs
  • Ability to improve others' ability to deliver great work
  • Ability to demonstrate Safety Culture values (Think Customer, Open Honest Always, Better as a Team, Be Bold Bring Action)
Desirable Skills
  • Breadth of knowledge of a variety of platforms and approaches
  • Depth of knowledge in how large-scale data-systems and datastores work
  • Experience with backend infrastructure (e.g. AWS, infrastructure as code, event-based architectures, map-reduce, etc)
  • Working with service-oriented/microservice architectures
  • Experience with analytics workloads, build pipelines, and tooling, particularly around large-scale data ingestion and aggregation
  • Experience with key/value stores, relational databases (e.g. Dynamo DB, Postgres, MySQL)
  • Building and running SaaS or cloud services at scale
