Populus Café is seeking a highly skilled and experienced chef to lead our dynamic kitchen team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will oversee kitchen operations, manage a team of cooks, and work closely with management to ensure the highest standards of food quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and cook food using various techniques, including baking, frying, grilling, steaming, stir-frying, and boiling.

Plan menus in consultation with management and discuss food preparation issues with the team.

Estimate food and labour costs and order food supplies.

Check the quality of raw and cooked food products.

Recruit and train kitchen staff, including new cooks.

Ensure food freshness and suitability of products, and store them properly and at appropriate levels, maintaining the temperature of the cool room.

Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure conformance to established standards.

Requirements:

  • Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualifications.
  • Minimum 12 months of experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage a team.
