BEAR Scotland is a leading road maintenance and management service provider in Scotland, maintaining and improving Scottish Trunk Roads including bridges and structures through some of the most scenic parts of the country.

Job Description:
  • The role involves managing a team responsible for delivering both structural maintenance and routine maintenance budgets within a geographic area. This includes coordinating work schedules to ensure a steady flow of projects for operational and subcontractor delivery.

The Northwest Trunk Road Unit covers an extensive area of Scotland, spanning 1,422km of trunk road. It covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the Planned Maintenance Manager and Roads Manager in executing operations in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Manage a team to achieve full spend of client budgets and meet company financial targets.
  • Coordinate team efforts to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Undertake the role of Principle Designer/Principal Contractor as required, ensuring appropriate risk assessments are carried out and scheme designs are fit for purpose.
  • Adhere to all Company policies and procedures, and current legislation on Health and Safety, CDM, Environment and Accessibility.
Requirements:
  • Professionally qualified or working towards professional qualification (IEng/CEng)
  • Knowledge of current design standards
  • Working knowledge of contract control and management systems
  • Ability to work under pressure and produce innovative solutions to engineering problems
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Full approved UK Driving license
