Job Role Overview

The position of a Garden Education Specialist plays a pivotal role in empowering students with essential life skills in food production and cooking. The ideal candidate will have the ability to design educational programs that link real-life literacy and numeracy skills through the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Collaborating with teaching staff, teachers, and students to develop a program that meets the learning and wellbeing needs of students.
  • Liaising with gardeners to plan and harvest produce available in the school garden.
  • Facilitating the integration of literacy and numeracy elements into the program.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean kitchen environment.
  • Planning weekly menus, incorporating seasonal garden produce and preparing recipes suitable for children.
  • Managing ingredient procurement and equipment purchases within budget constraints.
  • Coordinating cookery classes and community events.
