About the Role

The City of Palmerston is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Land Conservation Officer to join our City Sustainability team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting the delivery of our Community Plan by managing Council's nature conservation areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sustainable Land Management: Develop and implement sustainable land management strategies, including weed and fire management, to protect and conserve our natural resources.
  • Conservation Planning: Prepare and implement conservation plans, including revegetation, to restore and enhance our natural areas.
  • Lake Management: Develop and implement lake management strategies to maintain the health and integrity of our waterways.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with the community to promote environmental awareness and education, and to build partnerships to support our conservation efforts.
Requirements
  • Diploma qualifications in Conservation and Land Management, or equivalent.
  • Extensive practical experience and knowledge in land management activities, including project management and/or contractor supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation and implementation of land/weed (or relevant) management plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively collaborate with stakeholders in the effective delivery of projects.
  • Excellent customer service skills with experience in handling complex customer enquiries.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) and build rapport across the organisation and within community.
  • Well-developed organisational and time management skills, including the ability to work autonomously in meeting deadlines.
  • Sound understanding of Occupational Health and Safety procedure and practice.
  • White Card - current or ability to obtain.
