Job Overview
Canonical is seeking a seasoned Software Engineering Manager to lead technical teams in the delivery and ongoing support of all Linux kernels provided by the Ubuntu Linux distribution. As a key member of our engineering organization, you will be responsible for managing cross-functional teams of software engineers, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products, and contributing to the development of new technologies.

About the Role
The ideal candidate will have significant programming experience in C, with expertise in operating system kernel internals and concepts. They will also possess excellent leadership skills, with experience in managing or leading teams of software engineers. Additionally, they will have the ability to coordinate between multiple distinct teams to achieve common goals and demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
* Manage cross-functional teams of software engineers in the delivery and ongoing support of all Linux kernels provided by the Ubuntu Linux distribution
* Ensure timely delivery of high-quality products while meeting quality control standards
* Collaborate with other teams at Canonical, open source community, and commercial partners to drive innovation and growth
* Develop and execute plans to mitigate security threats and exploits to the Linux kernel
* Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team

Requirements
* Significant programming experience in C, with expertise in operating system kernel internals and concepts
* Excellent leadership skills, with experience in managing or leading teams of software engineers
* Ability to coordinate between multiple distinct teams to achieve common goals
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Familiarity with version control practices, ideally with git
* Prior experience developing with software packaging formats, with direct Ubuntu/Debian/Snap experience being highly regarded
