As a Senior Legal Officer in the public sector, you will have the opportunity to take your legal career to the next level.

About the Role:
  • You will lead complex and challenging matters referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for prosecution.
  • This 6-month temporary, flexible full-time role offers the chance to prepare prosecution cases, collaborate with stakeholders, and advocate in court.
Main Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare prosecution cases on complex matters, including appeals, with professionalism and timeliness.
  2. Collaborate and manage relationships with defence counsel, solicitors, police, victims, and witnesses to maintain clear communication.
  3. Advocate in court for appeals, sentences, committal hearings, and bail applications across different courts.
  4. Engage with complainants and relatives, particularly in cases involving sexual or violent offences, with sensitivity and compassion.
  5. Lead and mentor legal officers and support staff, inspiring high standards and professional growth.
  6. Identify opportunities to improve work practices and streamline processes.
Key Requirements:
  • Admission as a Legal Practitioner in Australia is required.
  • You must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to navigate multi-stakeholder environments.
  • A proven track record of mentoring, training, and supporting legal teams is necessary.
  • A trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach when supporting victims of crime is essential.
  • You should be committed to maintaining high standards of ethics and competency in all aspects of your work.
