About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Fire Prevention Officer to join our team at the City of Greater Geelong. As a key member of our Fire Prevention Team, you will play a critical role in supporting the Municipal Fire Prevention Officer to undertake the Council's annual fire season inspection program, process and approve permit to burn applications, and work collaboratively with the team to manage Requests for Service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Municipal Fire Prevention Officer to undertake the Council's annual fire season inspection program, including issuing/processing Fire Prevention Notices, managing time extensions, corresponding with property owners, and data collection on property information.
  • Receive and process all applications for Permits to Burn, including approvals and determining applications that require further inspections.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of education programs to ensure property owners are aware of their ongoing obligations.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints and Requests For Service from the community.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate strong time management and collaboration skills, a high level of competency in computer skills, well-developed written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to problem-solve. You will also have demonstrated experience in a role dealing with fire hazards or fire prevention and knowledge of legislation related to Emergency Management and Fire Prevention in a Local Government context.

Essential Experience
  • People skills to support, influence, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders.
  • Well-developed communication - written and verbal skills.
  • Highly developed and demonstrated organisational skills with the capacity to coordinate tasks, determine priorities, and operate effectively as a member of a team in a highly pressured, and at times political environment.
  • A high level of competency in computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other software - such as Microsoft Office suite, record management systems, and/or GIS software.
