Job Overview

MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Apprentice Metal Fabricator to join our team in Newcastle, NSW. This four-year apprenticeship will provide you with hands-on experience in metal fabrication, leading to a qualified tradesperson status.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for grinding, welding, utilising thermal cutting equipment, and employing fabrication techniques to assemble, repair and construct various metal or steel products. You will also utilise hand tools and electrical equipment, maintaining a clean and organised workshop while adhering to all policies and procedures with a primary focus on workplace health and safety.

Work Environment

You will work under the guidance of experienced tradespeople, learning from them and developing new skills. The role involves full-time employment with paid annual and personal leave, above award wages, and access to 1:1 mentoring. You will also have the opportunity to access Government support payments of up to $5,000 for the first two years of your apprenticeship.

Requirements
  • A minimum of year 10 completed with a good understanding of maths, as you will be reviewing and working to drawings;
  • An excellent listening skillset, ability to follow instructions, and keenness to develop new skills;
  • A positive, committed attitude and good communication skills; and
  • Punctuality, reliability, and enthusiasm about the fabrication trade.

Salary

We offer a competitive salary package, estimated to be around $65,000 per annum, based on industry standards and location. Your salary will be negotiated upon commencement of your apprenticeship.
