We are seeking passionate individuals to become Fire Lookout Observers in the Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMV) Fire Lookout network.
This is a casual position until 31 May 2025. As a Fire Lookout Observer, you will play a vital role in the early detection of fires across Victoria's National Parks, State Forests, Protected Public Land and select private properties.
- Your primary focus will be detecting and monitoring fires, assessing their location, size, direction and behaviour.
- You will also support emergency response and planned burning activities across multiple towers within your district.
You will be based at the Mt Gordon tower, approximately 6 kilometres from Marysville, Victoria. To excel in this role, you will need:
- A current driver's license.
- Access to reliable transportation suitable for commuting to and from various tower locations, including 4x4 where required.
- Basic administration skills such as record keeping and data collection.
- Experience operating two-way radios and communications equipment is desirable.
- Map reading and navigation skills, with the ability to identify ground locations and map references.
- A basic understanding of fire behaviour is desirable.
