Language Revitalisation Leader

A pivotal leadership role driving the revitalisation of Aboriginal Languages across NSW.

  • This leader will drive the development and implementation of a strategic plan to enhance the agency's capability and capacity, building partnerships to support sustainable language revitalisation.

  • The Language Revitalisation Leader will lead a multidisciplinary team and is accountable for operating within an innovative legislative framework, leading a new and rapidly growing agency while embedding stability in staffing, operational procedures, budgets, and governance systems.

  • Navigating complex cultural and community contexts, this leader will steward cultural and community-held intellectual property, and lead transformative initiatives with high community expectations and strong cultural ownership.

This role contributes to the broader Closing the Gap objectives and strengthens the cultural heritage of NSW for future generations.

About you:

  • An influential and culturally grounded leader with a deep understanding of Aboriginal communities, history, and the significance of Language.

  • Proven experience leading complex organisations or programs, ideally with exposure to both government and community contexts.

  • Able to navigate sensitive cultural issues, engage credibly with Aboriginal communities, and foster effective partnerships across government and external stakeholders.

Key qualifications include strategy, governance, operational management, stakeholder engagement, influencing and negotiating in complex environments, and promoting the cultural, social, and community importance of Aboriginal Languages.
