Senior Scientist in Computational Biophysics

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled postdoctoral researcher to investigate the molecular mechanisms of the cardiac HERG potassium ion channel.
The successful candidate will have a research background in computation in biophysics, condensed matter physics or physical chemistry, and experience in atomistic simulations of membrane protein systems. A strong preference will be given to applicants with experience in simulations of ion channels, and in particular potassium channels.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills, who can work well with experimental collaborators to achieve high impact publications. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of independent research, including paper writing and conference presentation.
About the Role
This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of computational biophysics research, using advanced molecular dynamics methods to describe inactivation and drug modulation mechanisms for HERG. The successful candidate will be based at the Melbourne CBD campus, and will have access to cutting-edge supercomputers and structural/functional experimentation facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research in computational biophysics, focusing on simulations of membrane protein systems and ion channels
- Collaborate with experimental researchers to design and execute experiments, and to analyze data
- Develop and maintain software tools for simulation and data analysis
- Write papers and present results at conferences
- Participate in the development of new research projects and proposals
