We are seeking an experienced Data Analytics professional to lead our Data and Streaming Analytics team at Qantas Airways Limited.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for guiding and leading the architecture, delivery, and development of software systems that power our business unit. As a senior member of our technology team, you will be accountable for ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance of our data analytics infrastructure.

You will work closely with development teams to implement security best practices and deploy Confluent Kafka components. With your expertise in Java, Bash scripting, and Terraform, you will optimize Kafka performance, resource management, and troubleshooting.

A strong background in leadership, education, and mentoring is essential for this role, as you will guide and support junior engineers in their career development. Excellent communication skills are also vital for collaborating with stakeholders and communicating technical information effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architecture, delivery, and development of software systems that power our business unit.
  • Ensure scalability, reliability, and performance of our data analytics infrastructure.
  • Implement security best practices and deploy Confluent Kafka components.
  • Optimize Kafka performance, resource management, and troubleshooting.
  • Guide and support junior engineers in their career development.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and communicate technical information effectively.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience as a professional software engineer.
  • 3+ years of experience in Kafka (Confluent certified Kafka Developer or Administrator).
  • Experience with Confluent Kafka components like Cloud Kafka, Schema Registry, Kafka Connect, and KSQLDB.
  • Proficiency in Java for building Kafka producers and consumers.
  • Strong skills in Bash scripting for automation and system tasks.
  • Strong knowledge of Terraform for infrastructure provisioning.
  • Familiarity with GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipelines.
  • Leadership qualities and an approachable attitude to educate, mentor, and lead engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with stakeholders and communicating with various audiences.
