About the Opportunity



We are seeking a skilled Policy Officer to join our team within the Commissioning Directorate. As a Policy Officer, you will be involved in the coordination of researching and writing policy which contributes to the development of policies that impact the Early Childhood sector.

The Department of Education is the largest provider of public education in Australia, with responsibility for delivering high-quality public education to two-thirds of the NSW student population. Our work is focused on attracting, retaining, growing, and developing an engaged and valued Early Childhood Education and Care workforce to deliver high-quality services for children and families in NSW.

About the Role



The successful candidate will have previous government experience, including understanding of government processes. They will also have demonstrated experience working closely with government partners and in research, analysis, and advice to support delivery of policy initiatives and projects. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor communication to different audiences. They will be proactive, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and have the courage to challenge the status quo and seek and share innovative ideas.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Undertake research and analysis to support the development of evidence-based policy
  • Build and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist in the preparation of high-quality written advice
