Technical Expertise - Maintenance Engineer Role

The Technical Expert in track and civil discipline is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance of infrastructure on the network. Key objectives include overseeing technical maintenance plans, providing engineering support to project teams, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure site safety, quality, and environment controls.

This role involves:

  • Supporting and monitoring the execution of technical maintenance plans for managed assets on the network.
  • Providing delegated engineering authority to make decisions relating to asset integrity.
  • Monitoring defect management conducted by maintenance teams to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Assisting Civil Maintenance Engineers in reviewing track and civil asset performance analysis.
  • Analyzing data and records to produce progress and project performance compliance reporting.
  • Supporting projects by anticipating and fulfilling specialist track equipment requirements.
  • Investigating and delivering new technologies, including trial products.
  • Supporting project identification, prioritization, and scoping of major and minor projects.
  • Assisting in preparing expenditure budgets, reports, and forecasts.
  • Assisting Maintenance Superintendents with incident management and welded track stability analysis.
  • Reading and understanding plans, reviewing design documentation, and providing constructive reviews.
  • Coordinating construction engineering activities to implement projects according to plans and designs.
  • Maintaining awareness of compliance, technical, and financial aspects of track and civil functions.
  • Undertaking safety, environment, and quality risk assessments to ensure acceptable quality of structures and finishes.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant industry experience.
  • Degree in Asset Management, Infrastructure, or Maintenance Management (preferred).
  • Chartered Engineering Status (preferred).
  • Minimum 3-5 years railway engineering experience in a similar role.
