Lead Conservation Specialist

The role of the Lead Conservation Specialist is to oversee and execute high-quality conservation services in urban landscapes. This involves developing and implementing strategies to ensure biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration, and compliance with relevant legislation.

This position requires a senior leadership role in a team responsible for delivering outcomes such as the Biodiversity Strategy, Urban Forest Strategy, Weed Management Strategy, and Integrated Water Management Plan.

  • Develop and deliver effective conservation services across the region, ensuring safe, effective, and sustainable outcomes.
  • Provide strategic leadership for a team of specialists, supporting them to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • BUILD STRONG PARTNERSHIPS WITH KEY STAKEHOLDERS TO ENHANCE THE REGION'S NATURAL ENVIRONMENT AND ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY.
  • Manage budgets, contracts, and reporting to ensure strong outcomes and represent conservation priorities at the leadership level.
Key Requirements
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of urban biodiversity conservation, rehabilitation projects associated with natural areas.
  • A tertiary qualification (degree) in biodiversity conservation, ecology or an appropriate technical area, or lesser qualifications (diploma) with extensive experience.
  • Experience working within a highly political environment, engaging with stakeholders and building strong relationships.
  • Highly developed verbal and written skills, including report writing and contract specifications.
  • Ability to plan and deliver multiple projects/initiatives on time, within budget, and in a high-volume operational environment.
  • Proven experience in developing high-performance teams and possessing effective leadership competencies.
