Job Description

The Community Conservation Coordinator role is a vital position in our Environmental Operations Branch, responsible for supporting TurtleCare conservation volunteers and contributing to the region's environmental goals.

As a key member of the team, you will lead the coordination and delivery of support to the TurtleCare conservation volunteer program, ensuring its success and growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and supervise conservation volunteers, including recruitment, onboarding, training, support, and skills development.
  • Develop and deliver targeted communication strategies with volunteers and the public through various channels.
  • Provide timely and accurate information, advice, reports, and correspondence on all aspects of volunteer program operations and performance.
  • Contribute to the development, monitoring, and review of volunteer program strategies, ensuring continuous improvement and industry best practice.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve shared environmental goals and foster participation in the volunteer program.

This Identified Position requires an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person as per applicable legislation, and applicants will be required to provide confirmation of heritage.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., environmental science, education, HR, tourism, marketing, or communication) or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in coordinating volunteer programs and achieving program objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage relationships, resolve conflict, and engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering community engagement and education activities through events, training, and digital platforms.

Physical agility and fitness are also essential for carrying out laboring tasks, with a pre-employment medical assessment required.
