About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Wildlife Horticulture Specialist to join our team at Monarto Safari Park, a world-class open-range zoo in South Australia. As part of our expanding horticulture team, you will play a crucial role in collecting browse for our animal collection.

The successful candidate will have a Certificate II in Horticulture or Conservation Ecosystem Management and proven experience in plant species identification. They will be responsible for identifying and collecting tree browse, ensuring sustainable harvesting practices, and monitoring and documenting browse quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and collect tree browse from specific plant species based on dietary needs of animals
  • Ensure sustainable harvesting practices to prevent harm to trees and maintain ecosystem health
  • Monitor and document browse quality to meet nutritional and safety standards
  • Maintain detailed logs of browse collection, including types, locations, and quantities harvested
  • Collaborate with horticultural and animal care teams to ensure right species are collected and meet dietary needs
  • FOLLOW HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS to ensure safe collection activities
About You

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following selection criteria:

  • Hold or be working towards Certificate II in Horticulture or Conservation Ecosystem Management
  • Have proven experience in plant species identification
  • Hold a driver's license, manual experience desirable
  • Have awareness and ability to apply horticulture techniques and practices
  • Hold a chainsaw license
  • Working at heights qualification is desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of Workplace Health & Safety principles and process
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills

The successful candidate will be someone who has good people skills, pays close attention to detail, and can manage their time effectively, working both independently or as part of a team.
