Teacher Education and Indigenous Leadership Opportunity

The School of Education at La Trobe University is seeking a highly qualified and experienced academic to play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality and cultural responsiveness of initial teacher education programs.

This senior academic appointment is designed to amplify Indigenous knowledge systems and perspectives across the school's teaching, research, and partnership agenda. The successful candidate will lead by example as a high-quality teacher and researcher, mentor colleagues, and contribute to institutional change in line with La Trobe's commitment to truth-telling and reconciliation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement culturally responsive initial teacher education programs that enhance the quality and relevance of teacher education.
  • Build sustainable pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and educators through collaborative partnerships with schools, communities, and industry.
  • Contribute to the development of the school's renewal and La Trobe's broader strategic goals through innovative research, teaching, and community engagement initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • PhD in Education or a related field with expertise in teacher education and Indigenous education.
  • Proven track record of excellence in research and teaching, with a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and reconciliation in higher education.
  • Strong capacity to build collaborative partnerships with schools, communities, and industry, with a demonstrated ability to drive strategic vision and achieve outcomes that strengthen equity and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including academics, students, staff, and community partners.
