About the Role

As a senior technical underwriter, you will play a critical role in executing business strategies for profit, growth, service, and producer relations. You will foster relationships with major customers and brokers by demonstrating your expertise in property products.

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Executing annual goals, including achieving premium budgets
  • Assisting in positioning and negotiations associated with delivering profitable transactions
  • Writing a portfolio in accordance with our underwriting strategy
  • Selecting new risks and underwriting renewals for assigned books of business or designated speciality classes or market segments within the property portfolio
  • Consulting with product managers on risks exceeding delegated authority
  • Providing technical leadership for underwriting/marketing in the product or division, including risk referrals and portfolio management
  • Consulting with distribution managers on retention and prospecting activity
  • Providing expertise in speciality lines of business to major customers, brokers, and teams
Qualifications
  • 5 years' experience in a property or underwriting and development role with an insurance company
  • High degree of technical underwriting ability; oral and written communication, negotiation, and presentation skills;
  • Ability to effectively interact with brokerage, customer, and internal stakeholders at all levels
  • Develop creative solutions to unique underwriting situations through making recommendations for tailoring coverage and manuscripting policies
  • Understand advanced pricing techniques, when to use, how to use, how to sell, etc.
  • Be familiar with developing marketing plans and handling complex accounts
  • Understand the underwriting appetites of other departments and how those relate to interdepartmental accounts
  • Track record of high achievement in a team-based and results-oriented culture
  • Familiar with the products/services of key competitors
  • Have experience in the interpretation and analysis of claims and appropriate deployment of loss control resources
  • Strong communication skills: To assure healthy exchange of information & impediments
  • Proven ability to seek out new distribution sources
