Job Opportunity: Planning Officer

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Planning Officer to join our team at the City of Albany. As a Planning Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the orderly development of our city, providing technical advice, and promoting private and public sector development.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for recent graduates or planners looking to start their career in a supportive and inclusive environment. You will have the chance to work on a range of projects, from development assessments to policy development, and contribute to the growth and development of our city.

Key Responsibilities
  • Encourage and facilitate the orderly development of the city, ensuring compliance with town planning principles and practice, state and local planning legislation, and local government operational frameworks.
  • Provide technical advice and support to customers, developers, and Council staff on town planning and related matters.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to promote private and public sector development, and provide advice to Council, ratepayers, and developers.
  • Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders to achieve the City's strategic objectives and provide excellent customer service.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in Town Planning.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the R-Codes and other state and local planning legislation.
  • Strong customer service focus and commitment, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer, report writing, and negotiation skills.
