We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Planning Director to join our team at the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage. As a Planning Director, you will play a key role in shaping the land use and development of land in Western Australia.
About the RoleThe Planning Director will provide strategic leadership, direction, and day-to-day management for a geographical area that encompasses nine local government areas in the Metropolitan region. You will oversee two specialist teams that undertake and are involved in strategic and statutory planning matters and reporting these to the Western Australian Planning Commission within specified timelines.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-level planning advice and expertise to the Western Australian Planning Commission, Director General, Assistant Director General – Land Use Planning, Executive Planning Director, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and implement strategic plans and policies to guide land use and development in the Metropolitan region.
- Manage and coordinate the work of specialist teams to ensure effective and efficient delivery of planning services.
- Build and maintain relationships with local government, state government agencies, industry, and the community to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators to ensure the effective delivery of planning services.
- An accredited tertiary degree qualification in Urban and Regional Planning and/or Development (or equivalent).
- Detailed working knowledge of the Western Australian planning system and WA planning framework with a strong understanding of complex structure planning proposals.
- Extensive experience working in the Western Australian planning system, or transferable experience in similar systems, including demonstrated experience in both the implementation and design of the planning framework (statutory and strategic planning).
- Proven ability to respond to complex planning proposals and work proactively and collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve planning outcomes.
