Job Title:

Entry Level Legal Professional

About the Role:

This is a permanent position based in Newcastle, where you will support senior legal counsels to review and apply legislation relating to the Coal Long Service Leave Scheme.

You will provide legal advice to the organisation under guidance, focusing on employer compliance under the Coal LSL scheme and regulatory processes. A sound understanding of legislative regimes and legal authority governing the Coal LSL scheme is required.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Support senior legal counsels in reviewing and applying legislation for the Coal Long Service Leave Scheme.
  • Provide legal advice to the organisation on employer compliance and regulatory processes.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of legislative regimes and legal authority governing the Coal LSL scheme.
  • Complete allocated tasks to a high standard, including seeking guidance and proactively reporting progress.
  • Assist with evidence review, undertake legal research and analysis, and prepare clear memorandums and correspondence.
  • Actively contribute to engagement with employers and employees concerning legal and regulatory issues.
  • Liaise with external legal providers by preparing briefs, reviewing advice, and supporting practical interpretation and application.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret legislation and case law to apply to a given context.
  • Produce quality legal analysis and advice using strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Analyse complex issues and implement strategic solutions that support organisational goals.
  • Attention to detail and methodical work processes.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to produce high-quality written reports and documentation.
  • Candidates must have a law degree or equivalent and a current NSW practising certificate or be in the process of completing those qualifications.
