National Patient Safety Lead - Procedural Safety Role

Drive procedural safety and clinical risk initiatives across hospital networks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead or support procedural incident reviews and clinical risk assessments.
  • Monitor and report on procedural safety metrics, adverse events, and patient feedback.
  • Develop and implement clinical policies to enhance procedural safety.
  • Collaborate with hospital teams to promote safe practices in procedural areas.
  • Contribute to patient safety frameworks focusing on procedural governance.
  • Assist with data collection and reporting for benchmarking and national safety initiatives.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Current registration with relevant professional bodies.
  • Recent experience as an educator, quality manager, floor coordinator, nurse unit manager, or clinical leader with more than 5 years' experience overall.
  • Experience overseeing and managing specialties within peri-operative and/or procedural care settings.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare standards, along with a strong understanding of clinical governance principles related to procedural safety, clinical risk management, and healthcare frameworks.
  • Advanced clinical expertise and skills, with extended practice informed by evidence-based methodologies.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, including mentoring, problem-solving, and supporting safety and quality initiatives.
  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clinicians, managers, and governance teams.
  • Understanding of procedural safety principles, including team time out, sign in/out processes, and site verification practices.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Postgraduate qualification in peri-operative specialisation, health services management, or quality and risk.
  • Experience leading procedural safety audits, accreditation preparation, or compliance reviews within perioperative departments.
  • Computer skills in MS Office suite, including Excel.
  • Competence using risk management systems.
  • Knowledge of procedural safety protocols.
  • Experience with serious incident investigation methodology.
