Senior Civil Designer Job Description

This role involves overseeing the planning, development, and quality control of civil design projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with design software such as MicroStation and OpenRoads, as well as strong leadership skills to mentor junior designers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement civil design plans for medium-sized projects or smaller-scale assignments within a global business unit
  • Produce high-quality 3D models, drawings, and documentation using established design standards for civil works, including earthwork, road, and drainage structures
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of civil design estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and requirements, ensuring timely and budget-friendly execution
  • Review and check civil engineering sketches and drawings from designers and drafters, guaranteeing accuracy and adherence to industry codes and regulations
  • Ensure that all civil designs meet applicable installation codes, design guides, regulations, and standards, fostering a safe working environment
  • Collaborate with day-to-day technical teams, communicating complex technical issues and recommending solutions to senior management
  • Coordinate assigned civil design work with other project groups, facilitating effective communication and teamwork
  • Communicate with client representatives as delegated to obtain approval on phases of work, maintaining open lines of communication
  • Mentor and train junior designers and drafters, providing guidance and feedback to enhance their professional growth and development
Requirements:
  • 12-14 years of relevant work experience, demonstrating expertise in civil design and drafting techniques
  • Extensive experience with design and drafting using MicroStation and OpenRoads software (desired but not essential)
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, graphic arts, reading of drawings, and reproduction methods used by the discipline
  • Experience with multi-discipline interface management and global 3D model oversight, showcasing ability to work collaboratively
  • Expertise in reading, interpreting, and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups
  • Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to design responsibilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards
  • Experience in design and drafting, including demonstrated expertise in a lead role or recognized courses in personnel direction
  • Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required
