Job Title: Staff Specialist in Forensic Pathology

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Specialist in Forensic Pathology to join our team at NSW Health. As a key member of our forensic pathology service, you will be responsible for providing high-quality diagnostic, consultative, and procedural services in forensic pathology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert diagnostic and consultative services in forensic pathology, including autopsies and post-mortem examinations.
  • Participate in teaching, research, and quality improvement activities related to forensic pathology.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide a timely and respectful service for the deceased, families, and the wider community.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in forensic pathology, including staying up-to-date with the latest research and developments in the field.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to forensic pathology.
Selection Criteria:
  1. Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in Forensic Pathology.
  2. Demonstrated contemporary clinical knowledge and technical expertise in forensic pathology.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education and continuing professional development.
  4. Demonstrated participation in teaching and training at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, including supervision of junior medical staff.
  5. Ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including excellent communication and organisational skills with capacity to manage competing priorities.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to the principles of clinical quality management, continuous improvement, and a contemporary knowledge of National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) Standards and NATA accreditation processes.
  7. Proven ability to work with the deceased in an environment that could be distressing, ensuring to raise any associated concerns and/or need for support, adopting self-care strategies and promoting same for staff.
  8. Demonstrated capacity to adopt and model the NSW Health RITE values of Respect, Integrity, Teamwork, and Excellence.
