Role Description

The Australian Electoral Commission is a statutory authority that maintains an impartial electoral system for eligible voters. We actively manage the electoral roll, deliver polling services efficiently, and implement targeted education programs.

Community and International Engagement Section

You will join a team dedicated to promoting electoral participation among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Our team members are passionate about empowering these communities to have a stronger voice in elections.

We also work with other groups who may face barriers to electoral participation, such as people with disabilities, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, young people, those without fixed addresses, and individuals in prison.

Opportunity for Impact

As Assistant Director, Governance and Strategy, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Australian elections. You will contribute to managing national projects and programs related to the Indigenous Electoral Participation Program (IEPP).

Working closely with government and community organizations, you will develop strategies to improve electoral accessibility for culturally diverse audiences. Your expertise will help drive positive change and make a real difference in the lives of Australians.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement effective processes to support the Community and International Engagement section's strategic and operational functions.
  2. Provide high-quality advice and guidance to leadership and the Senior Executive cohort on section/Branch functional responsibilities.
  3. Lead and guide a small team to achieve positive results and support the AEC's strategic direction.
  4. Work collaboratively with stakeholders to analyze information and identify opportunities for improvement.
  5. Communicate effectively and make decisions using professional judgment in complex and changing environments.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Australian citizens must be employed by the AEC.
  • Applicants must consent to undergo character clearance and security checks.
  • Applicants may be required to undertake psychometric assessments.
