Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Principal Special Education

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant Principal Special Education to join our team at Young North Public School. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and supervising staff in the planning and delivery of evidence-based learning and teaching programs for students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise staff in the planning and delivery of evidence-based learning and teaching programs for students with special needs.
  • Develop and implement differentiated personalized learning and support plans, Health Care and Behaviour Management Plans, which are accessible and engaging for students with special and diverse needs.
  • Facilitate access for learning and support teachers, school teams, and stakeholders to drive professional learning grounded in current research and skills training, including trauma-informed practice and holistic student wellbeing.
  • Develop and maintain positive and trusting relationships and partnerships with students, parents, staff, external agencies, and the wider school community.

Requirements:

  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience with Autism, intellectual disability, and challenging behaviors using knowledge and understanding of relevant disability legislation and Department of Education policies.
  • Capacity to provide specialist assistance and lead and supervise staff in the planning and delivery of evidence-based learning and teaching programs.
  • Highly developed skills to facilitate access for learning and support teachers, school teams, and stakeholders to drive professional learning grounded in current research and skills training.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to drive strategic directions across the school and work as part of a collaborative team.
